What Is the Vault?
When you sign into your Final Draft Cloud account, you’ll automatically be redirected to your Vault.
Think of the Vault as your main workspace — the place where:
- All of your files are stored
- Projects help you stay organized
- Collaboration and sharing happens
- Your writing stays synced and secure
Projects in the Vault work just like folders on your computer.
View and Sort Your Files
Scroll down to the Files section to see all scripts that are not yet placed inside a project.
Files are listed from:
- Most recently modified
- To least recently modified
If you’re looking for an older file, click the sort arrow to reverse the order.
Each file row shows:
- File name
- Collaborators (if shared)
- Sharing options
- More actions (open, rename, move, download, trash)
Share a File with Collaborators
You can share any file directly from the Files list.
To share a file:
- Click the Share button next to the file
- Search for a contact
- Choose their permission level
- Confirm the sharing checkbox
- Click Send Invite
Permission levels in Final Draft Cloud:
- Reviewer
A Reviewer can:- View the file
- Leave ScriptNotes
- Cannot edit text, delete, download, or print
- Editor
An Editor can:- Fully edit the script
- Add or remove content
- Download and print
The recipient will receive an email letting them know the file is available.
Manage File Actions (Rename, Download, Move, Trash)
Each file includes a menu of additional actions.
From the file options menu, you can:
- Open the file
- Rename it
- Download it
- Move it into a project
- Move it to the trash
To move a file into a project:
- Click Move
- Select the destination project (or sub-project)
- Click Move to confirm
Your file will disappear from the main Files list and now live inside that project.
Organize Work with Projects
Projects are folders that help you organize scripts and related materials.
To open a project:
- Double-click the project name
Inside a project, you can store:
- Drafts
- Outlines
- Notes
- Concept art
- Multiple versions of a script
You can also create Sub-Projects, which act like folders within a folder.
Each project and sub-project can have its own cover image.
Create a New Project
To create a project:
- Click the Create button in the upper-left
- Select New Project
- Fill in project details, such as:
- Title
- Genre
- Logline
- Synopsis
- Cover image (optional)
Once created, the project will appear in your Projects list.
Add Files to a Project
Once a project exists, you can:
- Create a new file directly inside it
- Upload an existing file from your computer
- Move files from your main Vault into the project
To move an existing file:
- Open the file’s options menu
- Click Move
- Select your project
- Click Move to confirm
Your file will now live inside that project folder.
Edit or Share an Entire Project
Projects have their own set of options.
When you highlight a project, you can:
- Edit project information (genre, synopsis, cover image)
- Share the entire project with a collaborator
- Download the full project
- Move it into another project
- Delete it
Sharing a project works the same way as sharing a file:
- Choose Reviewer or Editor
- Send an invite
- Collaborators gain access to everything inside the folder
Trash and Restoring Deleted Projects
When you delete a file or project, it moves to the Trash.
Inside Trash, you can:
- Restore the project
- Permanently delete it
Deleted items remain in Trash for 30 days.
If you don’t restore them within 30 days — or permanently delete them — they will be gone forever.
Find Files Quickly with Search
The Vault includes a search bar at the top of the page.
To search:
- Type a keyword (for example, “outline”)
- All matching files will appear, no matter which project they’re stored in
Search makes it easy to locate scripts even in a large Vault.
You’re Ready to Organize Your Work
The Vault is your central hub for writing in Final Draft Cloud.
Now you can:
- Create projects
- Store and organize drafts
- Share files with collaborators
- Leave feedback with ScriptNotes
- Keep everything secure and searchable
