About the Screenwriters Choice Awards
Our Mission
The mission of the Final Draft, Inc. Annual Awards Event has always been to honor both aspiring screenwriters – with our Big Break Contest – and legendary writers who have had a profound influence on the way we write screenplays today – with our Hall of Fame Award. Now, with the addition of the Screenwriters Choice Awards, we are giving writers of all levels a voice in recognizing the best film and television scribes currently working in the field. This unique event brings together writers at every stage of their careers, from the aspiring to those who are writing today's best scripts, creating a strong community of screenwriters focused on the advancement of our craft.
The Awards
Writers will be honored in four categories: Best Screenplay, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Television Comedy, and Best Television Drama. Eligibility is based on a U.S. theatrical release during the calendar year for screenplay categories. Television shows must have broadcast more than 50% of their season's episodes in 2012. (See eligibility for complete details.) Nominees will be invited to the Annual Awards Event at The Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills where the winners will be announced and honored by their fellow writers.
The Process
Nominees are chosen by a committee of industry leaders who submit their selections for Best Screenplay, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Television Comedy, and Best Television Drama from the theatrical releases and television shows of 2012. Final Draft registered users then vote from among the nominees to select the winners who will be honored on stage at the Final Draft, Inc. Annual Awards Event.
