How do I open a new TV show template?
|
back to top of page |
| |
Applies to: Final
Draft 5, 6 , 7
Open
Final Draft, go to File/New. Choose the
Scripts sub-menu. You'll see various formats, including
sitcom and TV drama.
Choose
the format you want to write in
and Final Draft will open a blank document in this format.
If you want to write a spec of a show that's on
the air, go to File/New and choose TV Templates.
Pick the show you want to write and a sample script will come
up.

Each template has instructional text that demonstrates how
how this particular show heads its scenes and acts, how it
transitions between shots, how flashbacks are written, etc. (we
recommend that you look this over). Regular characters and
locations will already be in the SmartType lists.

Delete all or some of the text in the template when you're
ready to write.

Every time I open the program a TV template opens instead of a blank screenplay template.

Final Draft
defaults to the last stationery file you opened when going to
File>New.
Chances are you opened this template to check it out the last time you
opened a new document.
Go to File>New. Select the format you want. Once you do this,
this will be the new default.

How can I see what certain templates look like when they don't have text in them?
|
back to top of page |
| |
Applies to: Final Draft 5,
6, 7
The best way
for you to see how the different formats look is to open the sample
"Out4Life" script. It's in the Final Draft 5/6/7>Tutorial folder
on your hard drive. Click HERE
for help in locating this file.
Once
"Out4Life" is open choose the Formats>Elements command.
In the
Elements Dialog, choose Apply a Template [FD 7.1x] or Load [FD 7.0x,
FD6, FD5].
Simply choose
one of the templates (for example Half-Hour Sitcom), then hit OK.
"Out4Life" is now rendered as a half-hour script.
If you don't
want to use any of the ones provided you can use this same dialog
window to change/modify one to your specifications.

I have an older version of Final Draft. Can I import TV show templates that come with FD7?
|
back to top of page |
| |
|
No. The TV Templates in
FD7 -- and FD6, for that matter -- can't be opened in
older versions. If you're registered with us, you can
purchase the
upgrade and get all the templates you can handle. Click HERE for upgrade information.181287

When I open some of the template script formats, there's already text in them.
|

Applies
to: Final Draft 5, 6, 7
Some
templates have
text to show you what these different formats look like. To remove
the text from one of these documents, go to Edit>Select All.
This
will highlight the text. Hit Delete, the sample text will be
removed and you can start a new script.
If there's text in
the header that you want to change or delete, go to
Document>Header
and Footer. Highlight the text and either change it or delete
it.
