  Can I buy additional activations/authorizations?

Yes. Additional activations for Final Draft are $99 and additional activations for AV2.5 are $79. They may be used only for computers that you own and operate and you'll be the only person eligible for customer support.

  What's the difference between an update and an upgrade?

Final Draft is constantly improving its software products. When we fix things or add features, we post an update on our website.  An update will take the program from, for example, 7.1 to 7.1.1.  UPDATES ARE ALWAYS FREE.  We urge all of our users to keep their copy of Final Draft up to date by updating whenever a new patch is posted.

By contrast, an upgrade from, for example, 6 to 7, is when we re-engineer the program to a significant extent.  The main reason we release upgrades is to ensure that our software is completely compatible with the latest Mac and Windows operating systems, which are themselves constantly evolving.

Registered users will be notified of updates and upgrades as they become available.

  Do I need to have an earlier version of Final Draft on my hard drive to install the upgrade?

No. Final Draft upgrades are always full installs, which do not need to see or overwrite any previous installation already on the hard drive.
 
 

  Can I upgrade from Final Draft Version 4 to Final Draft Version 7?

Yes. The Final Draft upgrade is available to registered customers who own any earlier version of Final Draft. The upgrade can be purchased from Final Draft or through The Writer's Store.

Customer numbers only became part of the Final Draft package in the middle of version 4, so if you have FD4 or earlier, you may not have a customer number.  If this is the case, you will not be able to order the upgrade from the online store.  Instead, please call our sales office at 800-231-4055 or 818-995-8995 or The Writers Store at 866-229-7483 or 310-441-5151 and a representative will help you.
 
 

  What should I do if I want to get the upgrade but I'm not registered?

If you did register, your information may have been entered incorrectly.  Please contact a Final Draft Customer Sales Representative at 800-231-4055 or 818-995-8995 during business hours (9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Pacific Time) and someone will look into it.

If you haven't registered but you have your customer number, you can register HERE.  Click HERE for information on where to find your customer number.

If you haven't registered but you have your receipt, fax it to us at 818-995-4422 and add a note saying you're not registered but would like to get the upgrade. Make sure you include a phone number and the best time to reach you.

If you haven't registered but still have your old Final Draft Key Disk or installation CD, you can send it via a trackable service (FedEx, UPS, etc.) to:

Beware of purchasing Final Draft on eBay, Amazon Marketplace, Craigslist or other auction or classifieds websites.  If the price for a "new" box is too good to be true, it may be a pirated copy of the program.  Unscrupulous vendors are known to sell the same customer number over and over again to unsuspecting buyers and well-intentioned vendors may be unaware that they're selling a hacked customer number.

We cannot vouch for the authenticity of Final Draft software offered by any  vendor selling on an auction or classifieds website.

IMPORTANT
Final Draft, Inc. provides no remedy of any kind to people who have purchased illegitimate or non-operational copies of Final Draft from auction or classifieds websites.  If you knowingly or unknowingly buy a pirated copy of Final Draft, you will NOT receive any support from us.  You won't be able to register, get help or authorize/activate.  If you wind up with an illegitimate copy you should try to get a refund and then re-purchase Final Draft from an authorized reseller.

If you purchase a legitimate used copy and the program has been registered to the seller, both you and the seller must fill out the Transfer of Ownership form, available HERE.

Also, the original owner MUST deauthorize/deactivate (instructions HERE) their hard drives so that you can use that authorization/activation. If the authorizations/activations have been used and the original owner doesn't deauthorize/deactivate, there will be no authorizations/activations available for you to use.  In FD6 you would then have to insert the CD ROM whenever you launch the program; in FD7 you wouldn't even be able to open the program after 15 days. 181553

We do not have plans for more foreign-language versions but we do offer an International Edition, which comes with one foreign-language dictionary and a Getting Started manual in French, German, Spanish and English. Please note that although Final Draft does offer templates, spellcheckers and documentation in languages other than English, we do not provide technical support in any language other than English.
 
 

  I just bought AV Version 2.05 or the Scriptwiter's Suite. Do I have to pay full price for AV Version 2.5?
