FINAL DRAFT Tagger 2 Update: Break Down your Script for Scheduling Apps If you’re not already familiar with Tagger, we offer a section in the User Guide (available in the Help menu under “Final Draft Help”) that provides both an overview and steps for how to use it. What’s nice is that you automatically get the Tagger application when you purchase your FINAL DRAFT software. It is installed as a separate product. The application reads any version 8 FINAL DRAFT script (.fdx format) and enables you to “tag” elements within the script [cast, costumes, props, etc.]. With Tagger, you can select text from the script and add any element with a click of the mouse in any category for that scene – or for any or all scenes where that element appears. The element text is highlighted and color-coded, and can be customized to suit the way you like to work. Tagger 2 exports the results into most current scheduling programs such as Gorilla, Showbiz Scheduling, Movie Magic Scheduling, and EP Scheduling. Later this year, new releases to several of the aforementioned applications will be introduced. These new versions will import the .fdx file format affording you the ability to keep a single script file to add your “Tagger” data to for use in these scheduling tools. This means fewer copies of files to manage. Plus, with version 8 you can continue to rewrite your script and bring it back into Tagger without losing all of your work you did during the first session when you tagged your script. |

SCRIPTXPERT client Jeff York who received a “Recommend” for his screenplay Incurable has been signed by Trancas Films for management. Trancas Films is best known for their work on the Halloween films. Trancas’ experience with the horror genre make them a great fit for York’s script, which is about a young man dying of cancer who falls in love with a beautiful woman who turns out to be a vampire and who, through their romance, offers him (literally) a second lease on life (or un-death, as the case may be). Community Outreach: Final Draft, Inc. is a proud partner of the Santa Barbara International Film Festival and its 10-10-10 Student Screenwriting Competition brings together student filmmakers and screenwriters with industry professionals in an effort to encourage and assist the next generation of filmmakers. The screenwriting competition is comprised of 10 students who have been selected, based on their submissions, from Santa Barbara area high schools and colleges. The 24th annual festival concluded with a press conference and Sunday morning brunch at the famed Fess Parker’s Doubletree Resort, hosted by KTYD Radio’s Julie Ramos. One of the festival highlights was watching Clint Eastwood receive the Lucky Brand Modern Master Award. The award is the highest honor offered by the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. Industry Outreach: The NATPE Diversity Fellowship Program provides a small group of emerging television and video content creators of color with the next step in their career development. The Fellowship, which kicked-off at this year’s LATV fest, offers a series of mentoring meetings, workshops, networking and educational opportunities. Final Draft, Inc. was on the scene at the 2009 LATV Fest where the 20 emerging television and video creators converged. The Fellows were chosen through a selection and submission process with support from key industry organizations whose mission is to support and promote diversity in the media, entertainment and television industries. NATPE is a global, nonprofit organization dedicated to the creation, development and distribution of televised programming in all forms across all existing and emerging media platforms. Final Draft, Inc. is a proud sponsor of the Ethical Culture Fieldston 3rd Annual Film Festival where students from the school’s film program exhibit their work before the school community. The event supports the efforts of the participating students and also promotes insightful thinking that stretches far beyond the walls of the classroom. Students used Final Draft software to write their screenplays, and the experience they gained will enable them to use the software both inside and outside of the classroom and in their future careers. An award was given at the end of the event, and the screenplay winner for this year is Reenuka Sarika Ramphal. To learn more about the Final Draft, Inc.
