1. Oliver Stone and Big Break Winners Feted

Final Draft hosted its annual party at the Montmartre Lounge in Hollywood on October 18. Oliver Stone was the honored guest and was awarded Final Draft's Third Annual Hall of Fame Award. Stone gave an inspiring acceptance speech and his presence elevated the entire evening. In attendance were industry professionals and VIP guests, plus the newly revealed top three winners of the Big Break contest.

Big Break is an annual, global screenwriting contest designed to support emerging creative talent. Big Break rewards screenwriters with cash, prizes and A-list executive meetings. Winners and finalists alike have had their screenplays optioned and produced and have secured high-profile representation as well as lucrative writing deals.

The Grand Prize Winners of the 2007 Big Break
International screenwriting contest are:

1st Place Winner: Robert Frisbee, CA for Cityfall
In a bleak and distant feudal future, the world’s last city is dying, choked off within a mysterious energy barrier that cuts it off from the outside world. Humanity’s only hope to regain what lies “beyond the breach” is carried in the heart of a rebellion rising up against the fist and steel of a brutal ruler.

2nd Place Winner: Geraint Horwood, Buckinghamshire, UK for Knight Knight
Two saddle-sore knights go on a quest for love, adventure and comfortable underwear. Their quest to save a damsel in distress finds them working for the very king who kidnapped her. The damsel bullies them into rescuing her and soon it is they who are in distress.

3rd Place Winner: Tony Urgo, CA for The Wizard Joe
King of a resplendent fairytale country, Leonard Ludwig wakes up to discover he's been in a coma, all his life memories the result of an experimental therapy that kept his mind alive while his body healed. As rival factions threaten to take control of his beloved world, Leonard fights to save the only reality he now knows.

4. Spotlight On: The Brooks Institute

Final Draft would like to thank the Brooks Institute for its support at our 2007 annual Big Break event. Three students from the Brooks Institute’s graduate program filmed the event which featured Oliver Stone, recipient of the 2007 Hall of Fame award and the reveal of our Big Break contest winners.

About Brooks Institute:
The Brooks Institute has provided a hands-on, student-focused education since its founding in 1945. In the mid-1950s The Film and Video Production Program began as a natural outgrowth of the photography program. Using the same hands-on approach to teaching and learning, Brooks' students have the opportunity to master the art and craft of moviemaking. Notable alumni include: Isidore Mankofsky, cinematographer for The Muppet Movie and Somewhere in Time; Dominick Palmer, cinematographer for the TV series M*A*S*H; Robert Legato, Academy Award®-winner for Titanic, Best Effects (Digital Domain), Visual Effects Supervisor for The Aviator; and most recently, Boris Undorf, winner of the Best Cinematography award at New York’s VisionFest ’04 Festival for Sonata.
