4. 5th ANNUAL FINAL DRAFT BIG BREAK! CONTEST

We’re now accepting entries for our screenwriting competition, which seems to be growing in prestige every year. While we usually talk up the prizes and successes of past winners, it’s high time to introduce some of the accomplished judges who have evaluated the finalists in years past:

Marti Blumenthal, Partner, Writers & Artists Agency; John Fasano, screenwriter; Jeff Gordon, Founder, Writers Boot Camp; Kevin Williamson's Production Co, Outerbanks Entertainment; Matthew Weinberg, Literary Manager, Guy Walks into a Bar; Jim Mangold, writer and director (Copland, Girl Interrupted, Heavy); Brent Armitage, Producer (Gross Pointe Blank); Kathie Fong-Yoneda, Paramount Story Analyst and author; Stephen J. Cannell and Lori Hughes, President and Production Executive at Cannell Motion Pictures; John Truby and Syd Field, world-renowned screenplay teachers, and Andrea McCall, head of Story Department at Dreamworks.

This year’s panel will be no less distinguished. If you can impress enough of the judges, they’ll grab your foot and pull it through that door. For all the information on how to submit your script, please click here: http://www.finaldraft.com/bigbreak/index.html

We still want to talk up the successes of past winners, though.

2003 winner D.J. Richardson (Do Not Remove) has had numerous requests for the script from producers and executives and is building a large fan base. His manager is currently in talks with a producer regarding an option for the project.

As seen in The Hollywood Reporter October 2003, Fox 2000 has picked up Big Break! 2002’s winner, Shawn Corridan's surfing project 8 Track, with the Malloy brothers on board to helm and Gil Netter to produce.

2001 winner Torye Mullins' Breathing Underwater has been optioned by Trevor Macy and Fina Torres is attached to direct.

2000 Big Break! winning screenplay, Ken Hastings' Dawg was produced and shot by Gold Circle Films and starred Elizabeth Hurley and Denis Leary. It’s now available on DVD.
