Encino, CA - November 13, 2000
Final Draft Inc., makers of the award winning screenplay software
program, are proud to announce that Ken Hastings script "Dawg,"
the winner of the 1st Annual Final Draft International Screenplay
Competition, began principal photography November 13 with Denis
Leary and Elizabeth Hurley starring. Gold Circle Films is producing.
We created this competition because we truly believe that there
are many talented writers out there like Ken Hastings with movie
ideas and we are thrilled to have been able to give him this opportunity
of turning his words into a major motion picture, said Marc Madnick,
President and CEO of Final Draft, Inc.
Final Draft held the competion last year in order to offer undiscoverd
screenwriters a way to break into Hollywood. Of the 2000 scripts
submitted, Hastings, from Orlando, FL was chosen the winner and
awarded the grand prize of $5,000 and a trip to Hollywood. The
Cannell Company assisted by supplying readers of the scripts.
Final Draft then set-up three days of meetings with top Hollywood
agents and producers for the aspiring screenwriter. The Cannell
Company subsequently took an interest in Dawg, and became a producer
on the project.
When cameras roll on Dawg, it will mark the first time a software
company has been responsible for propelling a major motion picture
into production. Budgeted at $4 million - $7 million, the project
centers on a ladies man (Leary) who must apologize to the women
he has betrayed to inherit $1 million from his grandmother. Hurley
plays an attorney who accompanies him to supervise his mission.
Gold Circle Films, based in Los Angeles, is producing with Victoria
Hechberg (Sex in the City and Ally McBeal) directing.
"This is excellent! It's a step toward meeting Elizabeth
Hurley," said Hastings. "Final Draft has helped to turn
a Hollywood dream into a reality for me!"
