What constitutes software piracy? Some definitions are:

  • License misuse -- when a program is distributed to more people than are allowed by the license or is used in ways
    prohibited by the license.
  • End-user piracy -- when a person or a company reproduces or uses unlicensed copies of a program.
  • Counterfeiting -- the illegal duplication of software and packaging in order to imitate the genuine, copyrighted program.
  • Hard-disk loading -- when a computer reseller loads unauthorized copies of a program onto the machines it sells.
